Kingdom Causes

Local Leadership

The work of community transformation in Long Beach is fueled and advanced by many people.  Our purpose is to serve these people!  We are encouraged when we get to see, meet and journey with others who, like us, believe that what they do and how they live not only matters, but also helps to make a difference in the world around them!

In order to assist the "Mobilizing of God's People for God's Purposes" in Long Beach we have the following staff and leadership teams in place.

Jim lives in Long Beach with his wife Tamira, who is a flight attendant with Delta Air, and with their daughters Trisha, Danielle, and Lexie, who are all in college.

Jim was born in Bakersfield, CA.  He was the second of nine children.  Born into a Catholic family, he grew up with an awe and reverence for God.  His family moved to Long Beach in 1963.  Jim graduated from Millikan High School in 1973, where he struggled with the same trappings young people experience today.  In 1977, he submitted his life to Jesus at Calvary Chapel of Costa MesaThere he began to attend bible studies and lead worship wherever possible.

His appetite for the Word and heart for those outside of Christ led him to begin home bible studies in Long Beach for the unchurched and to attend Calvary Chapel of Seal Beach.  In 1979, Jim married his best friend and love Tamira and they began to open their home to the hurting and lonely around them.

In 1982, Jim was ordained as a pastor with Calvary Chapel and joined the staff full time.  His roles were Worship Leader, Youth Pastor, Home Group Overseer, and pre-marital counselor.  His training came through the school of hard knocks; his gifting and heart from the Lord.  Jim's desire was the see people, young and old, connect and follow Jesus, who is the only hope for this world.

In 1985, Jim joined Long Beach Christian Fellowship with Pastor Doug Richardson and served on staff for 11 years.  During these years, God began to develop a heart for missions and brought many missionaries into Tamira and Jim's home.  This desire was mixed with a hunger to see the people of Long Beach turn to God and the churches of the city to connect with each other to be witnesses of God's love to a lost society.

At LBCF Jim started small home groups, led worship, and brought churches together for events such as Easter on Signal Hill where up to 9 churches partcipated and the March for Jesus where 60 churches participated.  He was also able to travel on many short-term mission trips to visit and help missionaries.  It was on these trips that God gave him a heart to connect missionaries more to the local church for support, prayer, and encouragement.

In 1996, Pastor Roger Beard of Parkcrest Christian Church asked Jim to lead a new growing worship ministry at the church.  LBCF blessed and sent Jim to another church in the city to encourage and help the ministy growing on the Eastside of Long Beach.  During his 10 years at Parkcrest, Jim witnessed God reach thousand of lives.  The church grew from 900 to 3,000 and from 3 to 6 services at 3 different sites.  At Parkcrest, he followed the same pattern of starting small groups, teaching, leading worship, counseling, and being a part of a team with a desire to reach this city for Christ.

In 2005, Jim began to sense God calling him in another direction.  With encouragement and the blessing of Parkcrest, he stepped away from his position to start yet another new adventure.  Jim's desire was the spend more time on the mission field and to see the next generation of leaders emerge and take their place in the church.  His desire also is to connect, mentor, and encourage these new leaders as they take the church to the next level.

Brad Fieldhouse asked Jim to come and be a part of Kingdom Causes in Long Beach to do just that with the new church plants and house churches in the city.

Susy DeLucca

Susy and her husband Rich are both native Long Beach residents. They have been married for 37 years and have one son.

Susy is the owner of Hiatt & Peek and Hiatt & Peek Style (two retail stores in Long Beach). She is the facilitator of CityWatch, an intercessory prayer group founded in 2000. She is a member of the planning committee for the Long Beach Leadership Prayer Breakfast, which is an annual prayer breakfast patterned after the National Prayer Breakfast. She is also Board President of the Marketplace Merchants Association.

Susy loves Long Beach! She has lived here all of her life. After her salvation in the early 70's, she was baptized in the ocean below the bluff at Bixby Park. She believes that she was a seed planted for many future baptisms in those same waters. She has a call in her heart to pray over the city and she believes revival is coming to Long Beach.

She also has a great love for "Marketplace Ministry" and believes that she has been placed in the Marketplace (which includes business, government, and education) to light the path of those she works with and near.

Her "life scripture" is Philemon 3:6 which says, "Let the communciation of your faith be made more effectual by the full acknowledgement of all that is in you by Christ Jesus." Her heart is to be a bridge between man and God (intercession), and the Word of God and the believer (teaching). She is committed to living a life of faith, for it's through faith and patience (a consistent response) that we inherit the promises.
Tom Virtue has spent the last 36 years of his life around college students! Working with Campus Crusade for Christ has allowed him to be involved with students on about 100 campuses - both here in the Los Angeles area and in several countries around the world. It's ironic that he leads the Los Angeles Metro team which is seeking to launch ministry on over 90 campuses around metro LA since he grew up on a farm in rural Illinois.

Walking through life with his wife, Karen, and three adult children has added meaning and enjoyment to life along with all of the challenges that comes with all the activity of working with students. After moving to Long Beach 25 years ago, it took a couple of years of real adjustment before Long Beach became a home that is known, loved, and seen as a place of tremendous potential.

Luke 4:18-19 communicates some of his heart and prayer for this city... "The spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent met to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed, to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord."
