What is Our Place?
Our Place Neighborhood Resource Center (OPNRC) is a community center for the Eucalyptus & Cornuta neighborhoods. It also serves as the offices for Kingdom Causes Bellflower. Each week we have different meetings and events happening. Check out the calendar on our main site for more information.
Goals:
Our goal is to promote sustainable community development through Our Place Neighborhood Resource Center. Our Place serves the residents of the Eucalyptus & Cornuta Avenue Neighborhood, a thre
e-block area with approximately 15,000 residents.
History:
Several Christians in Bellflower have been praying for the Eucalyptus Avenue neighborhood for many years. These prophetic community members have had a burden for this densely populated neighborhood which has incredible potential but has historically been identified as an undeserved community.
Neighbors and representatives from local churches are part of a task force that has been meeting since 2004. The Eucalyptus Task Force adopted the strategies of Asset Based Community Development to partner with neighbors to bring positive change to their community. In order to have more contact with the neighbors, the task force decided that Kingdom Causes would need a location on or near Eucalyptus Avenue.
In September 2006 Kingdom Causes signed a 3 year sub-lease for a property in a strip mall on the corner of Eucalyptus Avenue & Alondra Boulevard. This location has become a gathering place for resident leaders. The community center serves as a launching pad for Strategic Neighbors who will seek to build connections and community health in the neighborhood, supporting and networking with resident leaders for positive change.
