Local Cause  |

We dream of a city where the Kingdom of God is established through believing, consistent prayer.  Our desire is to network intercessors all over the city of Long Beach praying in concert over various areas of concern.  Each month we will pray over a council district, City leaders, and schools and churches in that district.  We will also pray over a Cause monthly and soak our City with the prayers of the righteous.  We will also offer one of the NDOP seven spheres of prayer.  To learn more about National Day of Prayer please visit their website.

In 2 Timothy we see this exhortation - "I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence."  Again in Proverbs 11:11 we see that "By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted."

 Prayer for City Council District

District One

Councilmember and Vice Mayer Bonnie Lowenthal

Councilmember and Vice Mayor Bonnie Lowenthal

The First District includes the oldest residential neighborhood (Willmore City) in Long Beach, Downtown Loft District, Washington, St. Anthony’s, and Roosevelt Schools areas; and portions of Hellman, Westside, and East Village. It also includes several industrial areas, such as the Magnolia Industrial area, a thriving downtown and a portion of the Port.

The population of the First District is a microcosm of the city, and Long Beach is one of the most diverse cities in the country. Population of the First District is 49,979 (2000 census), and of that 36% is under the age of 18. Over 65% of the population is Hispanic, with 13% African American, and 80% of residences are renter-occupied.

Median household income for much of the First district is less than $40,000. The median price of a single family residence is $450,000, and the percentage of households that can afford to buy a median-priced home is close to 2%.
