Food for thought
"Any focus on Christian discipleship which persistently ignores or neglects the poor is a defective discipleship. Any spirituality which persistently neglects or ignores the needs of the poor is not a truly biblical spirituality. It is not a Christian spirituality following Jesus.
Any use of spiritual disciplines while neglecting or disobeying God in this area is to run the risk of spiritual self-deception and even the danger of the judgment of God. God cares about the poor - not just about the spiritually poor…"- Roberta Hestenes

Good news! There are already a number of groups working locally in Task Force capacity around the area of homelessness. Because of this we view ourselves as one of the faith based sub-committes to this broader effort. We have people on our team that make it their goal to represent us at any/all of these other tables. We seek to support, promote and involve ourselves in many of the city's broad based efforts!
Currently this group has developed a Homeless Assistance Training (HAT) that assists the local faith community (churches, small groups, etc) in equipping themselves to serve the homeless. The next HAT will be on February 24, 2008 (see below for more details)
They are also helping to find tangible ways for people to be involved in the lives of their neighbors that happen to be homeless by working through the various efforts already happening around the city.
Opportunities for Involvement
Homeless Assistance Training (HAT)
A panel of the Kingdom Causes Homelessness Task Force will equip churches with skills to best serve their neighbors who have been marginalized due to homelessness. The Homeless Assistance Training will inform others the realities of homelessness, expectations for those wanting to be involved, basic case management, 10 opportunities to serve today, and guidelines for a long term commitment.

For almost 40 years Inner City Ministries (ICM) has been building relationships through which the lost and discarded poor of the inner city are transformed into God's children. We believe all people, including the homeless, are called to a God-given personal identity and purpose - a mission in life. And we believe all Christians are called to break the economic and ethnic barriers that divide our society.
